Walgreens, Rite Aid Scrap Merger, Ink $5.2B Deal For Half Of Rite Aid Stores

Forbes - 6/29/2017 - Bruce Japsen - Walgreens Boots AllianceWBA +1.66% said it will now buy only half of Rite Aid's drugstores in a surprising new deal to pass regulatory scrutiny from the Federal Trade Commission. Rite Aid will remain a "multi-regional" drugstore chain after selling the 2,186 of its 4,500 stores to Walgreens. Rite AidRAD -26.46% will receive $5.175 billion in cash for the 2,186 stores, "related distribution assets and inventory from Rite Aid," the companies said Thursday morning.
