Lately, there has been an unfortunate rash of stories around startups behaving badly. Specifically, these stories were about companies such as Uber and Tesla and others that have failed their female employees. Women who were sexually harassed or discriminated against or generally made to feel “less than” and found no comfort or support within their organization. The awful halo effect of these stories has been the idea that HR, as a function and department, is useless. In these specific situations, there is no question that, from what has come out thus far, HR did not work for the employees of these companies.
