Voice of the Consumer: Don't let IRS scammers panic you - think before you act
The Gazette - 3/5/2017 - Betty Sexton - Just when you thought it was safe to answer the telephone, the crooks have cranked up the volume again. Yes, the dreaded IRS scam has been revived and now a new set of bad guys are out there, trying to scare you into giving them cash. I've been warning you about these fraudulent calls for a few years. Your phone rings and a recording plays, claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service. Baloney! The recording is designed to spook you into calling back. Viewers and readers tell me they usually get two to three calls over a two-day period. Linda in Colorado Springs shared this warning that she recently received on her cellphone: "Final notice from Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service. The reason of this call is to inform you that IRS is filing a lawsuit against you. We need you or your retained attorney of record to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely time-sensitive. Please call Anthony Leon at 845-363-5387." read more @ http://gazette.com/voice-of-the-consume ... le/1598224
