Courier & Press - 6/2/2018 - Christine Young - You get a call from someone who claims to be a sheriff’s deputy, a U.S. Marshal, or even a federal judge. In an urgent tone, the caller says you missed jury duty and there’s a warrant out for your arrest. As your heart starts pounding and your mouth goes dry, the caller says you can avoid going to jail by immediately paying a fine. He or she then walks you through payment instructions, telling you to use a reloadable debit card or a cash transfer service, such as MoneyGram or Western Union.
