Aiken Standard - 5/6/2017 - Kelvin Collins - The Better Business Bureau is warning well-meaning seniors about “emergency” scams designed to fool them into thinking that their grandchild is hurt, has been arrested or is stranded and in need of money. According to recent FBI reports, the “Grandparent Scam” has been around since 2008, but there has been a surge in these scams over the last two weeks. Retirees are an attractive target for financial scammers since they may have more disposable income and they are less likely to report being scam victims.
