Global trade will push U.S. economy ahead, forecaster says
MarketWatch - 4/12/2017 - Max Nutting - After years of battling the headwinds of a tepid global economy, the U.S. economy will get a little more support from the rest of the world this year, says Christophe Barraud, strategist and chief economist for market securities and the winner of the MarketWatch Forecaster of the Month contest for March. “This year, global growth will accelerate, and the U.S. will benefit,” Barraud said in an interview. At the beginning of the year, Barraud and many others believed the U.S. economy could break out of its post-recession funk and post some growth numbers closer to 3% than to the 2% we’ve been getting. But now Barraud is ratcheting back his estimate to just over 2%, largely because getting effective fiscal stimulus through Congress quickly is proving to be more difficult than Donald Trump imagined.
